Course Description
Soares Grounding and Bonding, Part 1 provides a comprehensive overview of grounding and bonding principles as outlined in the 2023 National Electrical Code. This course covers foundational electrical concepts, including voltage, current, resistance, and impedance.
Learners will explore the differences between grounding and bonding, the role of effective ground-fault current paths, and the critical components of equipment grounding circuits.
The course also examines system design, overcurrent protection, and the impact of electrical faults on safety. Ideal for electrical professionals, this course ensures a solid understanding of grounding and bonding fundamentals essential for safe and compliant installations.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Define and explain fundamental electrical concepts
- Apply Ohm’s and Watt’s laws to electrical calculations
- Analyze the importance of impedance and grounding in electrical systems
- Define and explain key grounding and bonding terminology and concepts
- Describe the roles and functions of grounding and bonding components

Instructor Bio
Chuck Mello
Mr. Mello is the owner of cdcmello Consulting LLC which provides electrical specialty training and engineering project consulting. He has provided field-testing and conformity assessment for over 50 years and managed two NRTL laboratories, SEMI evaluations, CE Marking and Field Evaluation worldwide for over 35 years.
Chuck is a Master Electrician and served as the primary author for updates to the Soares Grounding and Bonding book for the 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th (2020) editions (and was a contributing author for the 6th through 10th editions). He is a past president of IAEI (Independent Alliance of the Electrical Industry, formerly International Association of Electrical Inspectors).
